Have you ever heard a song or music performance and said to yourself, “That has got to be the best song I’ve ever heard.” Then about a year or two later, you heard another song or music performance and made the same statement. So have I.
So what is your all-time favorite song or music performance? For some, that’s easy to answer; for others you may have to think about it. Follow up question; how long has this been your favorite song or performance?
For me, my most memorable songs are the ones that spoke to the current challenges and relationships in my life.
One of my favorites is: “When God Ran,” by Phillips, Craig, and Dean. The reason it’s one of my favorites is that I’ve been the prodigal son more often that I would like to admit. Yet God, the Father continually watched and waited for me to turn toward home, ran to greet me, grasp me in His arms and welcomed me home again.
You may have a similar song with a similar story, how God reached you through a song when nothing else could have gotten that close to your heart.
Stop and think about this, every song or music ever written, or ever will be written come from a unique combination of just 9 NOTES! Every song that has ever been sung, written, or performed has been created through uniquely combining these 9 notes. Mind-boggling, isn’t it?
Yet look and listen to all of the music written, currently being written or ever will be written, will also come from combining these 9 notes. God is the endless, unimaginably creative Composer who surrounds us with beauty and blessings through His symphony of songs.
Now consider this, when we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, He fills us with the “Comforter” who is the Holy Spirit. Which according to Galatians 5: 22-23, includes the fruit of the Spirit; “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things, there is no law”.
Amazingly, there are 9 virtues given to us through the power and presence of the Holy Spirit. Count them; there are 9 virtues that the Holy Spirit is developing in your life as you abide in Christ.
God created 9 notes from which all of the world’s music comes from and will ever come from. If God can compose endless melodies and music for the whole world with just 9 notes, what can he do in your life with 9 virtues? Think of how much God can do in and through you with these 9 virtues. Virtues enabling Him to transform you into the beloved son he created you to be.
If we abide in Christ, the Vine, John 15: 1-17, then as His branches we will bear His fruit, becoming men of virtue, the Virtue of Christ. We become like Him!
So here is my challenge and encouragement, abide in Him daily, depend upon Him daily to develop and grow your God-given virtues. If you do this, your life and the lives that you influence will never be the same. I promise you this!
