Mindful Minute: New

The new printer I brought home two weeks still sits unopened in the hallway.  When ink started leaking out of the bottom of my old one, I knew it was time to replace it.   I had resisted buying a new one a year ago when my old printer stopped allowing me to print on both sides. I just adjusted how I printed documents and put up with the annoyance.  No adjustment will resolve the leaking ink, time to replace it.

So why does the new one sit unopened in the hallway?  Because I know it will take time to carefully read the instructions and patience to get, it set up.  As with anything new, if you want to make use of its fullest capacity, like double-sided printing, you need to learn how to use it.

The same is true for the new heart God gave us referenced in Ezekiel 36:26, “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.”  If we want allow God to use us to our His fullest capacity, we have some learning to do.  A lot of learning to do!

God didn’t stop with a new heart and new spirit; he also renewed our minds (Romans 12:2), thereby teaching us to listen, learn, love, and live with a new heart and a new spirit.

God’s word is the instructions, the Holy Spirit our instructor, it’s our choice to daily open the read the directions, guided by our Creator and Savior, or try to figure it out on your own.  I choose our Creator.

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” Romans 12: 2
