I helped produce a half-hour Christian music radio program that played on Sunday morning on a local secular station many years ago. To produce the weekly twenty-eight-minute program, we set up a makeshift studio in the church basement. We had wires everywhere, using two turntables, microphones, a mixer board, and a reel-to-reel tape recorder. Preparing the music and the message took about two hours to produce.
The program was mostly music from artists like Petra, Mylon Lefevere & Broken Heart, Whiteheart, David Meece, and Keith Green. In those days, local Christian stations were only playing music late in the evenings. The prime time was teaching and preaching programming.
Unfortunately, the program only lasted about one year due to financial costs, but the young people listened and like it.
Fast forward to today, now podcasts are the modern-day equivalent to our radio program, minus the wires, turntables, and reel-to-reel recorder.
I love podcasts, partly because listening is my preferred learning style but mainly because some great ministries produce podcasts that are relevant, relational, and dealing with real-life issues.
Here are a few of my favorites; I invite you to check them out.
