Mindful Minute: Patience

I hate waiting in line.  Whether it’s at the grocery store, the toll booth, or amusement park.  And the longer I have to wait, the more my frustration grows.  While impatiently waiting, my mind runs several scenarios as to what management should do to prevent important busy people like me from having to wait.  Sound familiar?

According to author Gary Thomas; “impatience is an addiction to comfort, ease, and my own will”.  I believe he’s right.

Impatience says our time is more valuable than everyone else so get out-of-the-way.  It also says that we believe that we’re the measure of the right way to do things.

On the other hand, patience says we know that everyone makes mistakes, tend to be forgetful, and like the guy driving below the speed limit you followed into work today, we all get old.  Patience says we accept others just as they are especially our family and friends.  Patience teaches us to treat others the way we would like to be treated.  And when our hair begins to grow grey we hope others will be patient with us.
