Painful: mental suffering or distress, physical suffering or discomfort caused by illness or injury:
What painful memories are holding you hostage to your past? No matter how strong you might think you are, unresolved pain will slowly paralyze and isolate you. Ignoring it, or denying it will only last so long. Your painful past will always win.
“Most men don’t grasp the power of their “painful” past. It grips him with vice-like talons relentlessly clawing, & ripping at his heart, his hope, and his soul until no strength remains and all attempts to soar are abandoned.” Randell Turner
Be mindful of these wise words from Dr. Henry Cloud: “Sometimes good cannot begin until there is a Necessary Ending to that which is keeping the “bad” going.”
Letting go of our painful misguided past is why God inspired Ezekiel to write: “I will give them an undivided heart and put a new spirit in them; I will remove from them their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh. Then they will follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws. They will be my people, and I will be their God.” Ezekiel 11: 19-20
It’s time to let go, face the pain and get to the new. Start by talking with someone today, call a counselor, coach, pastor or trusted friend and with God’s guidance you can let go of it all. Don’t let your past continue to ruin the present.
